Te Pūtahi - The Hub
A current focus of CILT is the establishment of a purpose built centre - Coromandel Hub - to ensure further development and sustainability of our services into the future. Since 2018 we have worked closely with the Thames Coromandel District Council to purchase land which had been earmarked for Community Development. We are very grateful for the support we have received from TCDC to realise this project.
The build is led by Steve Wilson and project managed by Ross Gamble, these two have done an amazing job of collaborating with sub contractors to keep it on track. We are hearing a lot a really positive feedback from people involved in the project and around town, it is a wonderful positive project and we are humbled by the generous support offered by the suppliers and sub contractors to keep costs down and the project moving forward.
The Hub project will provide a modern, enduring, collaborative environment where the social and community needs of the people of the Upper Coromandel Peninsula can be met; this includes community service and social support providers; meeting space and co-working facilities; and space for sports, recreation and community clubs.
To complement the delivery of social and community services it is proposed to provide hot desk space and facilities for work from home businesses, and an Impact Hub. This co-working environment will create opportunities for local entrepreneurs and small business owners to increase their work opportunities and create higher value work.
Construction begun on Stage 1 in September 2021, and is expected to be complete in October 2022.
Stage 1 is 395 square metres, and includes CILT offices, shared workspaces, tourism amenities and office space for other service providers.

October 2023 Update:
With all this nice weather we've had recently, the finishing touches have been able to begin and CILT is getting very close to moving into the new Community Hub building. Work has begun on completing the parking lot with the asphalt finally being laid. This will hopefully be our last hurdle before being able to occupy the building.
This has been a huge project with plenty of ups and downs — the severe weather we’ve had being our biggest delay — and we are very excited to finally be able to make the move and open The Hub (Te Pūtahi) to the public!
February 2023 Update:
The building is more or less finished and it is feeling really nice inside, however with all the storms we have not been able to finish the car parking or landscaping.
We hope to have this done as soon as possible. There is a bit of work yet to do in the tourist amenity block, to get the user-pays showers operational and the laundry facilities installed.
June 2022 Update:
Builder Steve Wilson and his team are making excellent progress, despite industry wide shortages on key supplies! We have an expected completion around December 2022. (pushed out from an initial estimate of October 2022) It's looking really great and we're very excited to move into the new space as soon as it's complete.
