Kiwi Can Coordinator – Marlene Johnson

…Joined our Kiwican team in June 2012 as a reliever then as a part time leader and still currently works as a leader three days a week at Thames South School, Coromandel Area School and Colville School.  Marlene started her role as Kiwi Can Coordinator in January 2015.

“There is nothing more pleasing than seeing the joy and excitement in the students eyes as they enter the Kiwi Can room.  Knowing that we are helping the tamariki by giving them the tools and skills to face all the challenges that they may encounter in life not just as a student but as they become young adults is very satisfying.

Gemma Lee…..

Gemma started as a Kiwi Can leader in Term 1 2015.  She was introduced to Kiwi Can when her son Lyrik started school.  It was one of the only school activities he would come home and talk about.  Lyrik gets really excited when he knows it is a Kiwi Can day.

“I love it when the tamariki are excited to be at Kiwi Can.  They arrived interested and willing to participate in all our activities.  I love seeing the children overcome challenges, and also love the way they are comfortable to say whatever they feel.  I wish there was Kiwi Can when I was at school”

Jasmine O’Neil…..

“I’ve loved being able to experience being a Kiwi Can student and then later on becoming a Kiwi Can Leader. I love being able to bond with all the kids in our Kiwi Can lessons and the students feeling comfortable enough to talk to me about anything whether it be in or outside of school.

“It makes me so happy to see how excited the kids are when they get to come to Kiwi Can.”
