Kiwi Can is a values and life skills programme for 5-12 year olds. It develops and strengthens students’ attitudes, self-worth and confidence by focusing on themes such as resilience, respect, integrity and positive relationships. We currently deliver the programme in Coromandel Area School, Colville School and Thames South School. Trained Kiwi Can Leaders work in pairs delivering the high energy, interactive and, most importantly, fun lessons. They are awesome role models for the kids to look up to.
Kiwi Can themes that the children learn about are:
- Positive Relationships / Whakawhanautanga
- Integrity / Pono
- Resilience / Taikaha
- Respect / manaakitanga
We cover one theme per term and encourage students to develop social skills that help build self confidence, engage their motivation and promote a positive outlook on the future.
Kandoo The Kiwi
Hi! My name is Kandoo and I’m the national mascot for Kiwi Can. I grew up on beautiful Great Barrier Island in Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf and I feel very privileged to come from such a wonderful country.
As a Kiwi, I generally love all things about New Zealand, but what is really special to me is all you wonderful young people across the country who embrace that ‘ can-do’ attitude to life.

Colville Community project. All photos in these albums were once stapled to the walls of the AV room. During our project time the students removed the photos from the walls and with the help of Miss Wilma all photos have been time-lined and placed into albums that the students have made.

We started delivering our Kiwi Can programme at Thames South School in the third term of 2013.

Students have found our Catchphrase puzzle and are now trying to figure out what our Theme and Catchphrase is. We love how they are working together and taking turns.
