Social Housing Project

CILT currently has 14 pensioner flats in Coromandel Town and is actively working towards supplying additional affordable accommodation throughout the peninsula for those over 60, those with a disability or those living on a low income.

In April 2015 CILT achieved registration as a Community Housing Provider from the Government Social Housing Unit to support future opportunities for development. CILT is also working with new tenants with minimal assets, low incomes and or health issues to access rent subsidies through the Income Related Rent Subsidy scheme.

In accordance with CILT’s social housing plans, CILT is a member of two relevant associations: the AHI (Australasian Housing Institute) and CHA (Community Housing Aotearoa).

A funding grant from WINTEC has enabled research on social housing need in the Upper Coromandel Peninsula  to be conducted. A final report was completed in October 2015 which can be read here Social and Affordable Housing in Thames-Coromandel District. The report shows the great need for quality affordable housing in our area, especially for those over 60, Maori and people with a disability.

In September 2013 CILT received a grant of $4,500 from the Coromandel Colville Community Board to support the planning and development of the social housing project.

CILT gratefully acknowledges the on-going support of the New Zealand Housing Foundation in the past and now in this new and exciting project.
