Community Transport Services

The Community Transport Service is a vital service that enables patients with a Community Services Card from the isolated rural communities of the Upper Coromandel Peninsula, access to health care at Thames Hospital and Waikato Hospital. The service is funded by the Waikato District Health Board. Patients are offered petrol vouchers or a cheque to attend hospital appointments in their own vehicles and a dedicated team of volunteer drivers are available for patients who are unable to drive.

Patients are offered cheques to attend hospital appointments in their own vehicles and a dedicated team of volunteer drivers are available for patients who are unable to drive. Petrol vouchers are also available for those who do not have photo ID and are therefore unable to cash a cheque at a bank. CILT is also able to provide volunteer drivers for patients with hospital appointments funded by ACC. The Resource Centre has organised funding for approximately 700 visits to Thames and Waikato hospitals in the last twelve months.

To access these services come into the Resource Centre at Tiki House with a copy of your appointment letter and one of our friendly staff will arrange things with you.

Annual surveys are conducted to obtain feedback from patients and make any improvements required. Some of the comments from the surveys in 2016 are below:

I don’t think I would be able to attend any hospital appointments for Thames and or Waikato!!”

I rely on this service as I am on a disability/sickness benefit so not much money but lots of hospital appointments!”

We are very lucky to have this service.”

This is a very worthwhile service.”

Mobility Van

In 2016 the Coromandel Community Services Trust (CCST) van completed 52 trips with 395 passengers from Coromandel Town to Thames for shopping. This fantastic service collects locals from their homes and drops them back at the end of the day. CILT organise all of the bookings for the weekly trips and the drivers are volunteers. Call or come into the Resource Centre at Tiki House to book a seat.
